Planning
The Planning Department provides planning, technical assistance, grant development and administration on a cost for services or grant basis pertaining to:
- Capital improvement
- Coastal Area Management Act (CAMA) grant application and administration
- Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) project application
- Hazard mitigation
- Infrastructure development
- Land use planning/zoning
- Local economic profiles
- Mapping / Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Ordinance preparation, revision and enforcement
- Other local development assistance
The Planning Department's duties are to provide advisory and administrative support to the Planning Board to:
- Make studies of the county and surrounding areas
- Determine objectives to be sought in the development of the study area
- Prepare and adopt plans for achieving objectives
- Develop and recommend policies, ordinances, administrative procedures and other means for carrying out plans in a coordinated and efficient manner
- Advise the commissioners concerning the use and amendment of means for carrying out plans
- Exercise any functions in the administration and enforcement of various means for carrying out plans the commissioners may direct
- Perform any other related duties the commissioners may direct
