Pre-Screening
There is a pre-screening required before candidates are selected to attend MAPP classes. The MAPP class is a series of programs designed to prepare you to become excellent foster or adoptive parents for our children. Some of the topics we cover include: what is foster care and adoption, discipline, child development, gains and losses, and self-esteem just to name a few.
Orientation
Prospective foster parents are asked to complete an online orientation before enrolling in Model Approach to Partnership in Parenting (MAPP) Training. This orientation covers many basic issues that will assist individuals in making decisions about becoming licensed foster parents in North Carolina.
Board Meetings
The Beaufort County Department of Social Services Board meets the third Monday of each month at noon except on holidays.
Caregivers Support Group
Caregivers Support Group meets the 4th Monday of each month from 5:30 to 6:30 pm at Grace Martin Harwell Senior Center 310 West Main Street in Washington, North Carolina. Featured speaker and/or pertinent discussion(s) at each meeting. All caregivers are invited. Light refreshments. Contact Laura Jett at 974-1837 or Marti Dail at 943-2992. Made up of families, caregivers, and other interested individuals meeting to share experiences and information in matters relating to caring for a loved one.
