Approximately 600 fifth-grade students, teachers, and chaperones from Beaufort County attend the District's Annual Dan Windley Environmental Field Days event. The educational event is held at Goose Creek State Park each year, usually the first week in November.
Presenters in six stations provide insight into soils, wetlands, forestry, fisheries, wildlife, and conservation. On each school's assigned day, the attendees are divided into groups in order to rotate at 15-minute intervals throughout the six stations. The stations are manned by personnel from the Park, Weyerhaeuser's Cool Springs Environmental Education Center, Natural Resources Conservation Service, North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, and the District. Students and adults enjoy refreshments provided by the District during break time. The District appreciates the assistance of all those involved in the learning stations and thanks Goose Creek State Park for co-sponsoring the event.
